Brave and the Bereaved

This is a song l wrote a few months after one of my family members passed away. A good friend of mine, who is also very talented with singing and playing instruments, put music to these lyrics and he use to do busking in Melbourne many years ago. This was a favourite with the public and he was quite often asked to play it again. If anyone follows Crakajak, an Australian Country Band, my friend helped them out with backing vocals and also helped with doing the mixing in the studio with one of their albums. I hope you enjoy the lyrics, and l hope you all have a nice day, take care for now Maree

Brave and the Bereaved

Your picture sits in front of me
I touch it but l can’t feel you
Your smiling face is watching me
But frame and glass surrounds you

I try to remember happier days
The joys and your laughter
Then the visions fade into a haze
Leaving disbelief there after

Chorus
I wished l knew you were soon to leave
To forgive and forget those things we said
It’s too late now l’ll forever grieve
Sorrow and guilt are inside me instead

Some nights lying in my bed
I’d swear l’d hear your voice
I’d realise so more tears to shed
Just dreaming l’ve no other choice

Chorus

Why do loved ones have to go
To leave ones they love behind
Your heart has ceased it hurts me so
How could living life be so blind?

Chorus twice to fade out

Home Made Spaghetti

Hello again:) This time l thought l would share one of my very own recipes:) l hope you enjoy it. l will be alternating my posts between, poetry, recipes, lyrics and jokes and some personal thoughts in between. Take care and if anyone does try this, l would be interested to see what you think. l do enjoy cooking and l love trying out new things with food. Maree

Spaghetti

Ingredients:

1 heaped teaspoon of crushed garlic
1 heaped teaspoon of Clive of India curry powder
¼ teaspoon of oregano leaves
4 large bay leaves
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons of margarine
1 large onion (diced)
1 kilo of lean minced beef
1 Leggo’s tomato paste (140g)
1 tin of Heinz big red tomato soup (420g)
1 tin of Leggo’s tomato puree (410g)

I use a 4 litre saucepan when cooking this.
On medium heat, melt margarine
Add garlic, stir through margarine
Add diced onion; cook until it has that transparent appearance
Add curry powder, stir thoroughly
Add mince and keep stirring and mixing onion through until meat is just off the pink,
Add oregano, bay leaves and salt and pepper to taste, stirring into the meat,
Turn down to low heat and put lid on, let simmer on low heat for 10 minutes
Stir once or twice during simmer
Remove lid and turn heat up to just under medium
Add tomato paste, stir through
Add tomato puree stir through
Add tomato soup stir through
Stirring occasionally until sauce starts bubbling, then reduce heat down to
low, cover with lid and let simmer for a further 5 minutes.

Hint: During the time when meat is simmering with spices, l usually begin
to boil the water ready to cook the pasta, l find that by the time the water has
boiled and pasta has cooked the sauce is ready.

Also, l place the  colander in the sink to drain the spaghetti. Once l have poured the cooked pasta in the colander, l then run the hot water tap and half fill the saucepan l used
to cook the pasta, then pour that over the pasta to rinse the starchy taste out of the
cooked pasta. l then sit the colander on top of the saucepan and add a large dob of margarine onto the pasta and mix through.

In Mourning

l love writing heartfelt poetry, l know it may be a sad start but it is one of my favourites.

You weren’t suppose to leave me
Standing here alone
You said it was forever
Your love is all l’ve known

You kissed my lips this morning
Before we said goodbye
We did not see it coming
Now all l ask is why?

I’ll miss your tender touch
When l’m lying in our bed
I’ll miss your warmth beside me
Those nights l’ll truly dread

I’ll miss those words “l love you”
Said softly in my ear
I’ll miss your arms around me
When you would hold me near

I need for you to tell me
Things will turn out right
But l know that will not happen
For you have left this life

If you can hear my mourning
Please listen to my plea
I’ll always remember you
Because you were a part of me

Just a brief introduction. l am happily married. l love writing when my brain decides to work..lol l hate writers block!! l love music, all styles except opera and standard country, some rap is ok, but l lean more toward the heavy rock side. l do like a lot of the stuff on the charts today. Some of my favourite bands are Nickleback, Offspring, Enrique Iglesias, Anastacia, Pink, Chris Daughtry, 3 doors down, Judas Priest, Krokus, AC/DC, Billy Idol, Rob Thomas, Justin Timberlake, the list just goes on but l'm sure you get the general idea.....lol l do spend ALOT of time on face book, l'm really into Mob Wars and l have made some very special online friends on there. My main reason l decided to create this blog is so l can share my poetry and recipes with you. l hope you enjoy reading them and l hope you enjoy my recipes:) Oh and the odd jokes that l have collected over the years. Anyway, thank you for visiting and feel free to make any comments, but please be polite:) As the saying goes, if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all:) Helpful criticism is welcome if you feel the need to have a say about anything l write....Take care.......Maree
